I’ve known Alex for about fifteen years. So when he called to say he and Millie were planning to elope in Chamonix — just the two of them and a celebrant, no guests, no fuss — I won’t pretend I wasn’t emotional. Being asked to photograph one of the most important days of your friend’s life is an honour and a privilege that I don’t take lightly.
Alex and Millie hold Chamonix very close to their hearts. They’ve talked about building their future here, and choosing this valley for their ceremony felt completely natural to them. When we had our first consultation call — which I do with every couple, whether they’re a friend or someone I’ve just met — they were incredibly decisive about the location. They knew exactly what they wanted.
That first call is something I do with every couple who’s considering working with me. It’s a chance for us to get to know each other, but it’s also where we start shaping the day together. I’ll ask questions you’ve probably never thought about before — and that’s completely normal. Eloping or getting married is new for most of us. We talk through ceremony timings, how the light will fall at different times of day, whether you need help with vendors like hair and makeup, florists, or a celebrant.
For Alex and Millie, I suggested Evie from Hair by Evie Lee — she’s an incredibly talented hairstylist for weddings, but she also offers her services as a celebrant. She styled Millie’s hair and then officiated their ceremony. Having the same person for both meant the day felt seamless and calm — no extra introductions, no strangers. Evie was already part of the morning, already knew the couple’s energy, and that carried beautifully into the ceremony.

April in Chamonix can surprise you. While the rest of Europe is thinking about spring, the valley is still covered in deep snow — but the sun is higher, the days are longer, and the light is extraordinary. It’s one of my favourite times of year to shoot.
Millie’s style was anything but traditional and I loved every detail. Those cowboy boots with the ornate metal tips. A geometric-print dress with bold black lines instead of a white gown. A white fur coat that looked incredible against the snow. And the most vibrant wildflower bouquet — purples, oranges, pinks, daisies — all of it popping against the white landscape.
Alex wore a classic morning suit with a golden-yellow tie and a delicate floral buttonhole that complemented the bouquet perfectly. Together, their style told you everything about who they are: confident, individual, and completely themselves.

Alex, Millie, and Evie standing in deep snow with the mountains towering behind them. No arch, no decorations, no audience. Just three people, a set of vows, and the biggest, most beautiful backdrop nature could offer.
Having already spent the morning styling Millie’s hair, Evie slipped naturally into her role as celebrant. She was calming, confident, and kind — and because she’d already been part of the getting-ready, there was a warmth and familiarity to the ceremony that you just don’t get when your officiant is someone you’ve met once on a video call. She made sure everything ran smoothly and felt deeply personal for them both.
The sun was out, the sky was that perfect bluebird blue you get on a clear spring day in the Alps, and the snow was completely untouched apart from their footprints leading to the spot where they said their vows. I positioned myself to capture the mountains framing them from behind — those jagged peaks rising up against the sky, the snow gleaming in the sunshine.
If you’re thinking about a spring elopement in Chamonix, this is what April looks like. Most people assume you need to come in December or January for snow — but some of the deepest, most beautiful snowpack in the valley comes in March and April. The light is warmer, the days are longer, and you get these incredible bluebird conditions that make the mountains look absolutely unreal.

After the ceremony, we had the whole valley to ourselves. No one else around. Just footprints in the snow, the sound of absolute silence, and two people completely in love.
This is the part of an elopement I love most as a photographer. There’s no schedule to keep, no guests waiting, no timeline pressure. It’s just us — walking, laughing, stopping for a kiss, trying not to fall over in the deep snow. Alex dipped Millie for a kiss with the mountains behind them and I honestly think it’s one of my favourite images I’ve ever taken.
The warmth between them was palpable. The way she’d lean into him. The way he’d look at her when she wasn’t paying attention. These are the moments I live for — the ones you can’t stage.

We left just as the sun started to fall behind the mountain and the temperature suddenly dropped. Millie’s feet were pretty cold by this point — cowboy boots look incredible but they’re not exactly designed for deep snow. We headed back to Chamonix for the happy couple to warm up their toes and celebrate just the two of them at the fabulous Rose du Pont restaurant.
And that’s the beauty of a Chamonix elopement. You can have this incredible, wild, snow-covered ceremony in the mountains and then be sitting in a cosy restaurant with a glass of wine twenty minutes later. It’s the best of both worlds.
If Alex and Millie’s day has inspired you, here’s what you need to know about planning a spring snow elopement in Chamonix:
Snow in April is normal. The valley floor might be starting to clear, but the higher spots are still buried in beautiful, deep snow well into spring. I know these locations inside out and can advise on exactly where will have the best conditions and the most dramatic backdrop for your ceremony.
You don’t need guests. Some of my favourite elopements have been just two people and a celebrant. The intimacy is incomparable — no distractions, no logistics, just you and the person you love most.
I’ll help you plan the whole thing. From suggesting the ceremony location and timing, to recommending local vendors like hair stylists and celebrants, to advising on what to wear for the conditions — I’m not just your photographer, I’m your local guide. I’ve lived in Chamonix for years and I know these mountains better than most. I can even put you in touch with someone like Evie, who styled Millie’s hair and officiated the ceremony — having one person for both means fewer strangers on your intimate day.
A highlight video captures what photos can’t. The way your voice broke during your vows. The sound of the snow crunching underfoot. The wind in the mountains. I now offer highlight videos alongside photography — short cinematic films that transport you right back to the moment.
Pricing starts from €2,600 for a 4-hour elopement session including full planning support. Get in touch and let’s start planning your day.

Nicola at Njoy Photography was our photographer for our elopement in Chamonix, and we honestly could not recommend her highly enough.
From the very beginning, Nicola was professional, thoughtful and incredibly experienced. She met with us several times in the lead-up to the day and was so helpful in guiding us through ideas, possible locations and how the day could work. We were not entirely sure what we wanted at first, but Nicola seemed to understand exactly what we were hoping for and took all of our thoughts into consideration. As two busy professionals, it was such a relief to know that we could rely on her to check in with us, guide the preparation and make everything feel easy and calm.
On the day itself, Nicola was absolutely fabulous. I felt completely confident leaving everything in her hands, which meant we could simply relax and enjoy the moment. She selected a beautiful location for the ceremony and captured the most stunning photographs, full of feeling and atmosphere. Her experience really showed — she knew how to guide us without making anything feel staged or stressful.
We are also so pleased that we included the video. We were not entirely sure what to expect but the final video was absolutely beautiful. It captured the feeling of the day so perfectly — the setting, the emotion, the little moments between us — and was put together in such a natural and professional way. As it was just the two of us eloping, the video has given us something incredibly special to keep and cherish forever, and it has allowed us to share the day with our friends and family in a way that makes them feel as though they were there with us.
Nicola made the whole experience so easy and stress-free, and we are both so grateful for everything she did. She is professional, warm, experienced and truly talented. We would wholeheartedly recommend Njoy Photography to anyone getting married or planning an elopement.
