I'm Nicola. I'm an elopement photographer based in Chamonix, in the heart of the French Alps. I live here. I hike these mountains. I know which ridge catches the last light in July and which forest is silent at sunrise in December. An elopement in Chamonix isn't running away. It's running towards something. It's choosing to make your day about the two of you — your love, your adventure, your story — without the guest list, the seating plan, or the expectations.
It can be just the two of you exchanging vows at sunrise on a mountaintop. It can be you and your closest ten people sharing champagne at a mountain refuge. It can be a two-day adventure: hiking, exploring, saying your vows somewhere that takes your breath away, then celebrating with dinner in a candlelit chalet.

Why Elope in Chamonix?
I'm biased, obviously. But I've lived in these mountains for years and I still catch my breath when the light hits the peaks in the evening. Chamonix is genuinely one of the most spectacular places on earth — and it's not just a view. It's an experience.
The diversity is what makes it work for elopements. In one valley, you have glaciers, alpine lakes, wildflower meadows, ancient forests, dramatic ridgelines, and a charming town with incredible restaurants. You can exchange vows high above the clouds in the morning and have dinner by candlelight in the village that evening.
And the logistics are easier than you'd think. Geneva Airport is an hour away. There are beautiful hotels and chalets at every price point. You don't need to be a mountaineer — some of my favourite elopement locations are accessible by cable car or a gentle walk.
For couples coming from the UK, Australia, or the US who want mountains but don't know where to start, Chamonix is the answer. And having a photographer who actually lives here is the difference between a great idea and an unforgettable reality.
Where to Elope in Chamonix — I'll Find Your Perfect Spot
Chamonix has dozens of incredible elopement locations. Mountain lakes, alpine meadows, dramatic ridgelines, hidden forests, and viewpoints that will take your breath away. Some are accessible by cable car. Others require a hike. Some are well known. My favourites are the ones most people don't know exist.
I don't share my best locations publicly — they're part of what makes your elopement yours. When you book with me, I'll suggest 2-3 options based on the season, the light, your fitness level, and what you're imagining. I'll show you photos from each so you can choose with confidence.
What I will tell you is this: within a 30-minute drive of Chamonix, you can access everything from glacier viewpoints to emerald lakes to ancient forests. The diversity is extraordinary. And because I shoot here every week, I know exactly where to be and when — down to the hour — for the best light.
That local knowledge is something you can't get from a photographer who flies in for the weekend.
Elopements in Every Season: Summer, Winter, and Everything Between
Long golden evenings, wildflower meadows, and access to the highest trails. Summer is peak season for Chamonix elopements — the light lasts until 9pm and the mountain locations are fully open. Book early, especially for July and August.

Snow transforms the valley into something magical. A winter elopement in Chamonix has a completely different atmosphere — intimate, quiet, with frosted pine trees and soft light. Fewer tourists, incredible light, and unique landscapes. Autumn brings golden larch trees and warm afternoon glow. Spring brings the first wildflowers and snow-capped peaks. These shoulder seasons are perfect for couples who want Chamonix at its most peaceful.

Here's what I do for every elopement couple:
- Location scouting — I'll suggest 2-3 locations based on the season, your fitness level, and what matters to you. I'll show you photos from each so you can choose with confidence.
- Timeline creation — I'll build a timeline for your day that accounts for light, weather, cable car schedules, and enough breathing room to actually enjoy everything.
- Vendor recommendations — Celebrants, florists, hair and makeup, restaurants, accommodation. I know the best people in the valley and I'll connect you with whoever you need.
- Legal guidance — France requires a civil ceremony at the mairie for a marriage to be legally binding, with a 40-day residency requirement. Most international couples do the legal bit at home and have a symbolic ceremony here. I'll walk you through your options.
- Weather backup — Mountains are unpredictable. I always have a Plan B (and a Plan C). Some of my most beautiful elopement photos were taken in mist and cloud — drama and mood can be even more powerful than blue sky.
- I'm British, so if you're coming from the UK, Australia, or the US, there's no language barrier. And I speak enough French to navigate the local logistics seamlessly. You get the best of both worlds — a native English speaker with deep local roots.
What a Chamonix Elopement Looks Like: A Typical Day
There's no such thing as a typical elopement, but here's what a day with me might look like:
Morning — You wake up in your chalet or hotel, no rush. I arrive and we capture the getting-ready moments. Handwritten vows being folded into a pocket. A nervous laugh. The first look.
Midday — We head to your ceremony location. Maybe it's a cable car ride, maybe it's a short hike, maybe it's a drive to a hidden lake. You exchange your vows. I step back and let it happen.
Afternoon — We explore. Portraits in the meadow. Champagne on a rock. A walk through the forest. This is the part where you forget I'm there and just enjoy being married.
Golden hour — The magic hour. The mountains turn pink, the light goes golden, and we create the photos that end up on your wall.
Evening — Dinner for two at a restaurant I love, or a picnic as the stars come out. I'll stay as long as the light does.

Frequently Asked Questions About Eloping in Chamonix
Do I need to be fit to elope in the mountains?
Not at all. Some of my best elopement locations are accessible by cable car or a flat walk. I match the location to your comfort level. If you want to hike, brilliant — I'll keep up. If you'd rather ride a gondola to the view, that works too.
What if the weather is bad?
Mountains and weather go hand in hand. I always have backup plans and can be flexible with weather windows. But honestly, some of my most dramatic and beautiful elopement photos have been taken in fog, cloud, and even light rain. Moody weather in the Alps creates atmosphere that blue sky simply can't match.
Can we bring a few guests?
Absolutely. An elopement can be just the two of you, or you can bring a small group. I've photographed elopements with two people and elopements with twenty. The spirit is the same — intimate, intentional, and personal.
Is it legal to get married in France as a foreigner?
France requires a civil ceremony at the mairie with a 40-day residency requirement. Most international couples marry legally at home and have a symbolic ceremony in Chamonix. This gives you complete freedom — you choose the location, the words, and the style without any administrative constraints.
How far in advance should I book?
For summer elopements (June–September), I recommend 6-12 months. Interseason dates are easier to secure at shorter notice. But always reach out — I sometimes have last-minute availability and I love making things happen quickly.
