An Adventurous Engagement Couple Photography Experience at a Stunning Waterfall in Chamonix

waterfall engagement celebration

Planning a fun couple photoshoot in Chamonix? This story’s for you. When Amos reached out with an idea to surprise his future fiancée with a waterfall proposal, I knew it would be something magical.

Little did we know that this engagement couple photography experience would involve climbing over trees, scouting many falls, and getting a little lost in the forest — the kind of shoot that reminds me why I love being a professional engagement photographer.

Why This Waterfall Was Perfect for Their Engagement Photo Shoot

Chamonix is full of breathtaking spots — snow-capped peaks, wildflower meadows, glacial lakes — but waterfalls are in a league of their own.

When Amos mentioned his love of waterfalls, I set off scouting. I checked out three locations before choosing one that’s just a short walk from Chamonix. The trail was quiet, the falls were flowing beautifully, and it felt like a secret world tucked into the woods — ideal for a private, professional couple photography session.

Behind the Scenes of This Professional Engagement Photographer’s Adventure

The weather in Chamonix had other plans. Just days before the shoot, 40 cm of snow fell overnight (in mid-April!), snapping trees and branches across the valley. I revisited the trail to check accessibility and found a massive tree had fallen directly across my original viewing platform.

Luckily, I had time to come up with a Plan B. We shifted the shoot to a spot just below the falls — a perfect frame for a golden-hour proposal.

From Snowy Trails to Sunset Views – Their Best Engagement Photographer Moment

The day of the shoot, I packed up my gear and set off on my electric bike with a trailer… until I hit snow and fallen trees. I ended up pushing the bike and carrying my kit through the woods. Meanwhile, Amos and Evetta took a wrong turn, and what should’ve been a 30-minute stroll turned into an hour-long hike.

But honestly? The timing was perfect. A rowdy group of tourists (beers, vodka, the works) thankfully left before they arrived. I hid behind a rock, camera rolling, and captured the moment he stepped into the river and got down on one knee. The sunlight hit the spray, the waterfall roared behind them, and she said YES!

That’s what being a professional engagement photographer is all about — being ready for anything, and catching real moments in epic places.

What Happened After the Proposal

We hugged, we laughed, and we climbed (carefully!) through the rocks for more photos. Evetta was amazing — gliding through the forest in her ballet shoes like it was nothing.

We wandered to the top of the trail for sunset views of the Chamonix valley, where Amos shared the most heartfelt words with her. It was romantic, spontaneous, and incredibly moving — the kind of engagement photo shoot that makes you want to do it all over again.

I also created a highlight video for them — something I’ve recently started offering to go alongside engagement couple photography sessions. Seeing these moments in motion, with all the laughter and emotion, brings the story to life in a whole new way.
